Blue Jay on a run

Hey everyone..

I have been back to running fairly consistently past few days now. And every morning I remind myself of days like these.. See there are very definite benefits of running outdoors. You get to see cute stuff! :) Here is a little blue birdie I saw recently while out on a run.

Fig.1. Blue Jay - kind of small, maybe a baby Blue Jay?
It was nestling at the bottom of a tree trunk. All fluffy and cozy. Head under its wing. Like it did not want to wake up. Like it did not care that it was daylight outside. Like it did not even know that it was a week day for goodness sake!

Birds these days, I tell you..

Now if birds were on Twitter, we could leave them tweets about the day's to-do, whats-in, whats-not, which worm is happening and which isn't.. Then they wouldn't dream about staying in bed like this and missing out on all the buzz!

When will birds learn to tweet..

PS: On a more serious note.. why would a little bird be sleeping on the ground? Shouldn't it be in a nest somewhere up there? I couldn't see a nest up in the tree.. but then that doesn't mean there wasn't one. Oh well.. another mundane, but unsolved mystery!

Aw, that birdie looks so cute!

I really admire your dedication towards fitness. I haven't been able to continue with my running and completely lost touch. Wonder when I will start again!

Thanks Aparna :) I would say don't wonder, start right now! Do one run here, one run there. It will all fall into place on its own. Don't think so much. If you get 30 minutes, go for a 20 minute run and shower in the remaining 10! Just do it!

Probably we can teach how to tweet :)
About the nest up: my thought. Probably u live in place where winter is harsh, wind, rain ect....
So the bird found a safe place down :)

Hey Cham.. hehe.. yeah.. maybe the ground is better than up in the tree! :)

My husband is an ardent lover of bird and we love our walks for the same reason as yours :)

:-) If it was a baby and just learning to fly, sometimes they cannot fly back to the nest as easily. We see a lot of baby birds in our yard, just sitting at one spot on the ground for a long long time. We had once thought that it fell off the nest and tried to look around to find the nest. In a little while the parents were going crazy over our head:-)

Ooh Soma.. that sounds like a very plausible explanation! Thanks! Cheerio!
